The Erie County Public Library received its beautiful, brand new Bookmobile at the end of August. The Library staff worked hard to familiarize themselves with the new vehicle, and to stock it with library materials. It began County-wide services as of October 4th.

This is the first Bookmobile in more than 20 years to combine services for both the City AND the County, and is providing outreach literacy services as never before. The new Bookmobile features more space for collections, handicapped accessibility for everyone whether they live in the City or the County, more dependable service, and a more extensive schedule of site visits throughout the City and County.

The new Bookmobile, which was funded by the County of Erie, the Erie Community Foundation Fund for New Leadership, and PNC Bank, is over 31 feet long and more than 11 feet high. While promoting library and literacy services, the Bookmobile also prominently features graphic representations of a few of the things that make Erie Pennsylvania a great place to live—including rolling hills of grape vineyards, Presque Isle Bay and the North Pier lighthouse. The breathtaking photos were taken by local photographer Art Becker.

The Library formally welcomed the new Bookmobile in a media event on Thursday October 19th. The event was followed by a reception, with refreshments provided courtesy of Stephany Catering.
